According to the Daily Mail, Allan Saint-Maximin is now set to stay at Newcastle after the Magpies performed a U-turn on the winger.
What’s the story?
Well, the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle were willing to listen to offers in the region of £50m for the Frenchman this summer.
However, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have now done a U-turn, with Saint-Maximin set to stay at St James’ Park.
So, what changed? Well, the Newcastle hierarchy now believe the 25-year-old would benefit from another year of coaching under Eddie Howe.
It is also said that Staveley and Ghodoussi feel there isn’t a market for Saint-Maximin, who arrived in a £16.5m deal from OGC Nice in 2019.
Newcastle had identified their No.10 as their most saleable asset, with outgoings needed to supplement this summer’s budget due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, the Toon Army will now need to sell someone else, after the hierarchy decided that Saint-Maximin shall stay.
Everton were said to be interested in the exciting Frenchman.
In 37 appearances this season, the flamboyant winger – who believes he has lost some pace – scored five goals, while also providing five assists.
Newcastle make correct decision with Allan Saint-Maximin
In our view, Staveley and Ghodoussi have made the correct call here.
Yes, Saint-Maximin probably is Newcastle’s most saleable asset, and he could also improve his end product, without a doubt.
However, it would be a major downer for supporters to see a fan favourite leave, just as hopes are being raised ahead of a potentially transformative summer.

It’s something Mike Ashley would’ve done, without any hesitation.
As seen in the display of Saint-Maximin before the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in April, the Toon Army adore the Frenchman, and there would be anger around Tyneside if he left.
On the basis of that alone, it is a wise decision to keep him around.
