Speaking on Soccer AM’s YouTube channel, Allan Saint-Maximin has claimed that he’s actually gotten slower in recent years.
Indeed, while the Frenchman has been described as ‘lightning’ by Steve Bruce in the past, according to Saint-Maximin, he was quicker when he was younger and he used to do athletics.
What’s been said?
Saint-Maximin claimed that he has slowed down.
“When I was young I did a lot of athletics, this helped me a lot, but I was maybe more fast before than I am now, when I was younger, before I was faster, yes,” Saint-Maximin said.

Hard to imagine
When you watch Saint-Maximin on the football pitch, it’s hard to imagine him being any faster than he currently is.
The winger is one of the most electric players the Premier League has ever seen, and when he gets going, absolutely nobody can catch him.
The fact that he used to have more pace in his locker is a scary prospect, and who knows? Perhaps he could rediscover that extra bit of speed once again in the coming years and become an even more dangerous attacking weapon.
In another lifetime, perhaps Saint-Maximin could have had a career in athletics rather than football.
