Arsenal or Tottenham could now have a chance of signing RB Leipzig superstar Christopher Nkunku, with reports of the France international having a release clause in his new contract seemingly not true.
According to Kicker, rumours that Leipzig had tied Nkunku down to a new contract that included an exit clause appear to be false, with no such option appearing in the midfielder’s new deal with the Bundesliga giants in what could be a major boost for Arsenal and Tottenham.
Both north London sides are interested in signing the record-breaking Leipzig star, who last season bagged an incredible 35 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, making Nkunku one of Europe’s most productive players and, as you can expect, a top target for many big clubs.
However, Leipzig managed to tie Nkunku down to a new contract that will keep the versatile attacking midfielder in east Germany for next season, with original reports suggesting that the new deal included a release clause that would activate in June 2023. Yet as now know, this is not the case.
No clause exists in Nkunku’s contract, and whilst this means Leipzig can demand a larger fee for their star player, it also means that Arsenal and Tottenham can more freely move to sign the 24-year-old Bundesliga sensation, a revelation that could have a huge impact in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Bidding war for Nkunku could star after Leipzig contract update

Nkunku enjoyed a historic season last year for Leipzig, and the former PSG star knows that he will be expected to follow up this brilliant campaign by hitting similar numbers, which could result in a bidding war for the France international.
Indeed, Nkunku was one of the best players in Europe last season and many interested clubs will be hopeful that the 21/22 campaign was no mere fluke, and for Arsenal and Tottenham, they could do battle next summer should the attacking midfielder reach similar heights in the coming campaign for Leipzig.
