According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Amine Gouiri, who Celtic could’ve signed for just £6m.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Real Madrid are now interested in signing the 22-year-old, who is also said to be a target for Newcastle and West Ham.

Defensa Central‘s update comes after Calciomercato revealed that Arsenal are hoping to bring Gouiri to the Premier League, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attack.

The Frenchman – who is being described as the new Karim Benzema – has scored 12 goals in 41 appearances this season, while also providing nine assists.

It has been an excellent campaign for someone so young, and it’s no surprise to see European giants such as Real Madrid and Arsenal trying to secure his signature.

Interestingly, Gouiri could also replace Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund, after the Bundesliga side sold him to Manchester City.

Celtic will feel embarrassed if Real Madrid or Arsenal sign Gouiri

In our view, those at Celtic might feel quite humiliated if Real Madrid or Arsenal manage to sign Gouiri.

Why? Well, in 2021, the Bhoys rejected the chance to sign the France Under-21 international for just £6m, as they deemed him too expensive.

Now, if he goes on to take La Liga or the Premier League by storm, there may be a strong feeling of regret coming from Celtic Park.

In our view, the chances of that happening are high, as Gouiri seems to be a real talent – recording 21 goal involvements alone in one season is not easy.

Of course, Ange Postecoglou is doing just fine with Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis, while Jota and Daizen Maeda have also impressed.

However, if Gouiri does go on to become the new Benzema, those in Glasgow will always think about what could’ve been.
