Celtic passed on the chance to sign Lyon striker Amine Gouiri last year, and he could now end up making a big move to Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to Sport1, who claim that Dortmund have been eyeing up replacements for Haaland.

They know that the Norwegian goal machine will end up leaving in the near future, and want to be prepared.

Gouiri is on the list, as is Nice teammate Kasper Dolberg with Dortmund casting their eye towards France.

Celtic passed on Gouiri move

Celtic wanted to sign Gouiri from Lyon in the summer of 2020.

Le Progres reported that Celtic asked about Gouiri, but Lyon felt the price tag was far too expensive.

They ended up backing away, but spent a similar fee on signing Albian Ajeti from West Ham United.

With Ajeti struggling and Gouiri potentially making a big move, that looks like a poor decision from Celtic.

Gouiri in red-hot form for Nice

21-year-old Gouiri has started the season unbelievably well, smashing five goals and two assists in just seven Ligue 1 games.

Last season, Gouiri hit 16 goals and eight assists in all competitions, thriving with Nice whilst embarrassing Celtic.

Quick, skilful, deadly and versatile, Gouiri looks set for a huge future – and any move to Dortmund would be much, much more expensive than the fee Celtic backed away from last year.
