According to Calciomercato, Newcastle and West Ham want to sign Amine Gouiri, who Celtic turned down as they deemed him too expensive.

What’s the story?

Well, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are also keen on the 22-year-old Newcastle and West Ham target, who Celtic probably wish they’d signed now.

Calciomercato believe Gouiri has ‘bewitched’ the Premier League duo with his efforts in Ligue 1 this season, where he has shone for OGC Nice.

Impressively, the France Under-21 international has scored ten goals in 25 Ligue 1 outings, while also providing seven assists.

Gouiri also has one goal in three Coupe de France outings.

Interestingly, the OGC Nice sensation has been compared to Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema by those in France.

Newcastle or West Ham could make Celtic look silly

If Newcastle or West Ham manage to bring Gouiri to the Premier League, Celtic will probably kick themselves.

Back in 2020, the Bhoys had the chance to sign him for just £6m, according to Le Progres.

However, the Hoops felt that Gouiri was too expensive at the time, and decided to withdraw their interest in the French prodigy.

Now, he’s probably worth at least £20m, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs monitoring him – Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the wonderkid.

Celtic have somewhat made amends since then, through the bargain additions of Kyogo Furuhashi, Josip Juranovic and others.

However, they’ll surely regret turning down Gouiri.

Keep an eye on this saga, as we can’t envisage the goalscoring gem staying at OGC Nice for much longer if he keeps performing this well.
