According to Jornal de Notícias, Crystal Palace and Brighton are keen to sign Zaidu Sanusi, who Tottenham wanted in January.

What’s the story?

Well, the Premier League duo have joined Fulham in the race to sign the 25-year-old, who scored the goal which won the Primeira Liga title for Porto last season.

Jornal de Notícias believe the Eagles and the Seagulls were left impressed by Zaidu’s performances last term, as he made 40 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants.

It comes after Tottenham tried to bring the left-back to the Premier League in January, when they approached Porto over the signing of Luis Diaz.

Eventually, Antonio Conte lost out on the Colombian to Liverpool, and he also failed to bring the Nigeria international to N17 as well.

Spurs have since signed Ivan Perisic for the left wing-back role, so we are not expecting the north Londoners to battle Patrick Vieira and Graham Potter for Zaidu’s signature.

However, Sergio Reguilon could depart, so who knows if Spurs will return for the Nigerian.

Jornal de Notícias do not mention how much the defender is expected to cost, although we believe Porto could demand a sizeable fee, given the fact his contract runs until June 2025.

Crystal Palace & Brighton don’t need to sign Zaidu

In our view, Crystal Palace & Brighton have no need for Zaidu.

Vieira already has an outstanding left-back in Tyrick Mitchell, so the Porto defender surely wouldn’t be a regular starter at Selhurst Park.

Potter also has a standout player in that role, with Marc Cucurella – a player being targeted by Manchester City – shining for the Seagulls in his debut season in England last term.

Of course, the pair may want to sign Zaidu as backup, although seeing as he is a regular for a title-winning side playing Champions League football, we doubt he’d be interested in being a deputy.
