Napoli are reportedly interested in talks to sign PSG defender Abdou Diallo as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who earlier in the transfer window was rejected by Tottenham after being offered to the north London club.
According to Sky Sport Italia, discussions between the Serie A side and the Senegal international are already underway following Koulibaly’s transfer to Chelsea, which was announced over the weekend as the defender joined up with the Blues in the United States.
As per the report, Napoli are looking for a quick transfer to replace Koulibaly, who during his time in Italy was arguably one of the best defenders in world football, with Carlo Ancelotti once labelling the centre-back as ‘the best in the world’ during his time as manager of the Serie A giants.
Surprisingly, though, Napoli are looking at signing Diallo to replace his international teammate, with the PSG defender recently being rejected by Tottenham according to reports as the French club look to offload the former Borussia Dortmund star.
Diallo is one of nearly a dozen players new manager Christophe Galtier is eager to sell this summer, though the 26-year-old defender was recently confirmed as a member of PSG’s travelling squad to Japan for their final slate of pre-season fixtures.
Indeed, Diallo to Napoli could take some time due to this surprising development, and for Tottenham, fans will be questioning why they rejected the chance to sign the PSG defender who has now been seemingly deemed good enough to replace Koulibaly in southern Italy.

Rejecting Diallo always seemed like an odd move from Tottenham, especially followed by their decision to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from FC Barcelona, and if Napoli land the Senegal defender, the 26-year-old could come to haunt Antonio Conte’s side.
After all, it takes quite a player to be viewed good enough to replace Koulibaly, one of Europe’s best defenders in recent years, and Diallo could become a star for Napoli if he hits the ground running in Italy, something that will also infuriate Tottenham and their fans to no end.
