Tottenham Hotspur considered signing Abdou Diallo from Paris Saint-Germain but backed away to instead push for Clement Lenglet’s signature.
Tottenham have added players in key positions so far this summer.
A goalkeeper in Fraser Forster, a wing back in Ivan Perisic, a midfielder in Yves Bissouma and a forward in Richarlison.
The attention is now turning to another defender, with Antonio Conte focusing on signing a left-sided centre back.
Alessandro Bastoni was the top target but Tottenham have had to look elsewhere with Clement Lenglet coming in.

Barcelona defender Lenglet is likely to join Tottenham very soon with a loan deal in the offing.
Tottenham will have a purchase option as part of that loan deal but they have considered other options.
RMC Sport claim that Tottenham were interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo in recent weeks.
Yet when it became clear that Tottenham could sign Lenglet instead, they backed away from the PSG man.
It’s stated that the deal for Lenglet is cheaper so Tottenham aren’t interested in Diallo anymore, leaving PSG with a difficult task selling him.
Diallo, 26, joined PSG from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 having spent just one year with the club after a 2018 move from Mainz.
The Senegal international is a natural left-footed defender who can play at centre back or left back, so he ticked some of Tottenham’s boxes.
Ultimately Tottenham didn’t want to pay what PSG were demanding so have chosen Lenglet.
This comes just months after Mauricio Pochettino wanted to send Diallo to Tottenham.
The Athletic reported that Pochettino and PSG proposed a swap deal involving Diallo and Ander Herrera in exchange for Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
Pochettino really wanted to reunite with Ndombele after their time together at Tottenham but the deal just didn’t work out.
For a second transfer window in a row, it looks like Diallo will miss out on a potential move to Tottenham.
