John Terry does want the Aston Villa job, Goal.com report, although he is unlikely to be given it at this time.

Terry to Aston Villa again?

Terry worked as Dean Smith’s assistant at Villa before stepping down at the start of this season, as he wanted his own managerial role.

The former Premier League winning captain has been out of work ever since, but he apparently would be keen to return to Villa Park now there is a vacancy.

Terry was popular with Villa’s players during his time at the club and his coaching methods were highly regarded.

However, it is claimed that the claret and blues are more keen on appointing someone with experience at this time.

As a result, Goal’s update says that Steven Gerrard is now their number one choice.

Gerrard has won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers and transformed the Ibrox side’s fortunes during his first job in management.

Aston Villa’s hierarchy have apparently been left very impressed with the way that he has done in Glasgow and now are looking for him to take the club forward.

Gerrard labelled ‘unbelievable’

Terry and Gerrard, of course, know each other very well having been teammates at England level over the years.

Indeed Terry even said to the Daily Mail earlier this year that he considered Gerrard to be an ‘unbelievable’ manager.

The 40-year-old may have to look on with envy if his old teammate is given the job at Aston Villa though, given his apparent desire to take the role.

Gerrard’s first task at Villa, if he does take the job, will be to raise morale.

The Midlands club have lost their last five games in a row and sit just above the drop zone currently.
