Nottingham Forest are hoping to make four new signings during the final two weeks of the transfer window with £2.5 million USA international Reggie Cannon a loan target, as reported by The Athletic.
After the brief and unsuccessful Jorge Mendes experiment was characterised by a host of Iberian additions, from Joao Carvalho to Gil Dias, will the reign of Dane Murphy herald an American revolution at the City Ground?
The arrival of the Connecticut-born CEO has already coincided with a deal to bring in USMNT goalkeeper Ethan Horvath from Club Brugge.
According to reports, Horvath’s 22-capped international teammate could be on his way to the East Midlands too, presuming Nottingham Forest can fight off competition from a number of Championship rivals as the battle heats up.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the two-time European champions had been looking into a rather ambitious deal for the highly-regarded Reggie Cannon.
The Athletic are now adding more meat to the bones, claiming that Nottingham Forest want the £2.5 million Boavista ace on loan with an option to buy.
Can a USA star solve Nottingham Forest’s problem position?
Murphy will know the 23-year-old well from his time in the MLS at FC Dallas; not to mention the fact he has become a regular fixture in the USA squad since his international debut in 2018.

A right-back who can also play further forward in midfield, Cannon would bring some much-needed quality to a problem-position too. The already under-fire Chris Hughton was forced to turn to 18-year-old Fin Back, after the equally inexperienced Jordan Gabriel was sent off during the midweek defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
The Athletic adds that Nottingham Forest are also hoping to sign a left-back, a striker and a central midfielder with James Garner – recently hailed by Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes – the top priority after last season’s superb loan spell.
Forest have also made three bids for Fortuna Sittard play-maker Zian Flemming. The Amsterdam-born schemer will cost £2.5 million (La Nazione).
