Nottingham Forest have been looking at a deal to sign USA international Reggie Cannon from Portuguese outfit Boavista this summer, as reported by The Telegraph.
Despite starting the season with successive league defeats, there remains an air of cautious optimism at the City Ground.
Forest have hardly been prolific in the transfer market but the players who have come in seem to tick plenty of boxes for the two-time European champions.
A goalkeeper capable of providing some much-needed competition for the talented but erratic Brice Samba? Tick.
A creative midfielder with an eye for a defence-splitting pass? Philip Zinckernagel has assisted 28 goals since the start of 2019/20, firing Bodo/Glimt to an unexpected Norwegian league crown.
Tick.
The arrival of Jordi Osei-Tutu could go some way to solving Forest’s problems at right-back too.
The Arsenal loanee isn’t the only right-sided defender on Chris Hughton’s radar, however, as Forest’s Carl Jenkinson and Sunderland-linked Jordan Gabriel face uncertain futures in the East Midlands.
Sheffield Wednesday veteran Liam Palmer and Reading youngster Tom Holmes have also been linked.

The Telegraph, meanwhile, claims 22-cap USA international Cannon has admirers at Nottingham Forest too.
Nottingham Forest target Reggie is no loose Cannon
The former FC Dallas flyer only joined Boavista in a £1.5 million deal 11 months ago but, according to reports, could be on the move again before long.
Should he join Forest before the end of August, Cannon would be reunited with USMNT teammate Ethan Horvath.
“I want to represent my country at the highest level and that means playing in a World Cup, and ultimately winning a World Cup,” the ambitious Cannon told The Dallas Morning News in July.
“I know, to do that, I can’t be making lateral moves or I can’t be stagnant. I want my trajectory to be continuing upward because my dream is to be one of the best full-backs in the world.”
