According to the Telegraph, Newcastle and Everton target Harry Winks is now likely to leave Tottenham after a deal for Yves Bissouma was agreed.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs have agreed a £25m fee with Brighton for the signing of Bissouma, who will arrive to add even more competition for Winks in the midfield department.

The England international only made nine starts in the Premier League last season, as he struggled to dislodge the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur from the starting XI.

Now, with Bissouma on his way, Winks is set to be shoved even further down the pecking order, and a potential exit is now more likely than before, according to the Telegraph.

It comes after the Magpies expressed an interest in the 26-year-old, as Eddie Howe looks to spend Newcastle’s riches on fresh additions.

Frank Lampard is also keen to bring Winks to Goodison Park – both he and Howe will now be boosted in their respective pursuits with Bissouma on his way to north London.

The Telegraph add that Winks could end up at Everton as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Richarlison, with Spurs also prepared to let Lucas Moura join the Toffees.

Newcastle should leave Harry Winks to Everton

In our view, Newcastle can aim higher than Winks, especially with their resources.

For example, the £40m signing of Bruno Guimaraes in January was an example of what the Magpies are now capable of, and clearly, they can attract big names like the Brazilian – even without Champions League football.

Therefore, a more ambitious move – such as a swoop for Lyon maestro Lucas Paqueta – should be considered before a bid for Winks is seriously debated at St James’ Park.

Of course, if we get close to deadline day, and Newcastle still haven’t found a new midfielder, then Winks would be a decent signing.

However, with time to consider all options at this stage, it would admittedly be disappointing if Newcastle settled on the Tottenham outcast, despite his obvious talents.
