Italian outlet CMW claim that Real Madrid are interested in signing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema – amid reports Tottenham also want to sign the Argentine, if Harry Kane does leave.

Lautaro, 25, continues to shine this season in a struggling Inter side. He has had a hand in six goals in 13 games this season, sparkling against Barcelona on Wednesday – scoring and creating another during a 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp.

Earlier this month, CMW said that Tottenham will go after the Argentina international if Harry Kane joins Bayern Munich. The England skipper recently opened the door to a possible Bayern move, saying Bayern are a “top, top club”.

The new report says that Madrid are in a similar boat to Tottenham. They need a striker to replace Benzema and have targeted Martinez, along with Tottenham. Inter see him as a ‘future Ballon d’Or’ winner, and rate him at £86million.

Madrid interested in £86million Martinez amid Tottenham reports

What a signing Martinez would be, for any side. While he might not score goals as regularly as Kane or Benzema, he is getting better with every season and at 25 – he has all the attributes to go on and become one of the best in the world.

His work rate, his ability to create and even play in the 10 role, he has similar traits to the likes of Kane and Benzema. Where would he rather go? It depends on how long Benzema and Kane remain at Madrid and Tottenham, respectively.

Benzema is 35 in December and out of contract next June, but he could easily sign a new deal at the Bernabeu. Kane is unlikely to want to leave the Premier League with Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record in his sights. One to watch.
