Report: Liverpool still want £35m player who said he wants to play at Anfield regularly

Well, Liverpool reportedly remain interested in signing Sander Berge in 2023.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, as covered by HITC Sport, the Anfield outfit were linked with a late summer swoop for the Sheffield United midfielder but he wound up staying with the Championship side.

This season, the Norway international, who has a £35 million release clause, is on course to record an excellent campaign.

So far, the reported Liverpool target has scored three and set up three goals in 10 Championship outings for the Blades.

And Jeunes Footeux published a story on Wednesday claiming that the Reds, along with Chelsea, were still ‘very attentive’ of the player, who revealed two years ago that he wanted to play at Anfield as much as possible.

The report added that it would be ‘surprising’ if offers weren’t made for the 24-year-old when the transfer window opens again in January.

Well, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t tend to do a lot of January business unless he desperately needs it.

And to be honest, Liverpool might not need a midfielder during the winter window.

That’s because although they’re short on options at the moment, there is a chance that Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones will be fit by then.

Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Fabio Carvalho are other players who have suffered injuries already this season, causing Klopp to sign Arthur on a season-long loan from Juventus.

And even the Brazil international will likely be far more up to speed with Premier League football come January, lessening the need for someone like Berge.
