Liverpool want Sander Berge with Jurgen Klopp considering a raid to sign the Sheffield United midfielder before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The Reds made an inauspicious start to the season with just two points from three games, and Monday’s defeat at Manchester United set alarm bells ringing.
Klopp’s men responded in style though, smashing Bournemouth 9-0 in an incredible show at Anfield.
Liverpool’s issues aren’t over though and they still need to think about midfield reinforcements having struggled in that area of the pitch this season.
A host of names have been mentioned, and one that will be familiar to Liverpool fans is Sheffield United ace Sander Berge.
Liverpool want Sander Berge
The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Liverpool are interested in signing Berge with Klopp understood to be a long-term admirer of the Norwegian.
It’s claimed that Berge has a £35million release clause in his contract, £13million more than the fee Sheffield United paid for Bergei n January 2020.
Club Brugge are keen on bringing the former Genk star back to Belgium but Liverpool could now join the race.
There were claims earlier this month that Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver had stated during coverage of Sheffield United v Sunderland that Liverpool were keen.
However, we have gone back through the coverage and, whilst Weaver did speak about Berge’s future, there was no mention of Liverpool.
These new claims do suggest that Liverpool are interested though, with Liverpool’s interest in Berge going back some way.
Liverpool faced Genk in 2019 and Klopp allegedly told Berge on the pitch that he is a ‘very interesting’ player.
Berge then claimed that he wants to play at Anfield as much as possible, meaning he would surely jump at the chance to join Liverpool.
Berge may not be a world star, but he is an athletic and technically-gifted midfielder who could play in a couple of different midfield roles under Klopp.
Add in that Berge is just 24 and he could be moulded into a key player by Klopp, so the giant midfielder is one to keep a close eye on in the final days of the window.
