According to The Times, Liverpool will likely target a new midfielder next summer.

The Reds have had a busy start to the summer transfer window. They’ve already broken their summer transfer record on Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho has arrived, while Calvin Ramsay also looks set to arrive this summer.

At the beginning of the window it looked as though the Reds would target a big-name in midfield. After all, they were strongly linked with a move for Aurelien Tchouameni before his move to Real Madrid, but it seems as though those funds have now been spend on Nunez.

Liverpool have instead pushed their plans to bolster their midfield back to next summer, and it’s fair to say that there is one player who could be a key target in 2023.

Indeed, Liverpool have long been keen on Jude Bellingham, and it’s widely expected that Borussia Dortmund will be selling their young superstar this time next year.

The Reds have also been linked with Barcelona duo Pedri and Gavi, but given that they could be La Blaugrana’s midfield pairing for the next 15 years, it may be difficult to get them out of Camp Nou.

This time next year seems like a good time for Liverpool to bring in a new midfielder. After all, both Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson will be in their early 30s at that point and a refresh will be needed.

Keep your eye on any emerging links to midfielders over the next 12 months.
