Leeds United and West Ham are set to miss out on Real Madrid talent Miguel Gutierrez, with Girona on the verge of signing the 21-year-old fullback.

According to Marca, the Spanish youth international will sign for the Catalan side on a permanent deal for a fee similar to what Madrid received for Takefusa Kubo for his move to Real Sociedad earlier in the transfer window, around £6m according to Goal.

Leeds and West Ham had both been linked to Gutierrez, with Arsenal also showing interest in the Los Blancos academy graduate, however, Girona have now stormed in front to sign the defender, and the La Liga side are now on the verge of signing the left-back in what could be one of the shrewdest deals of the summer.

Hailed as ‘phenomenal’ by former Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, Gutierrez was regarded by many as one of the Spanish giants’ most exciting prospects, however, this summer has seen the reigning La Liga and UEFA Champions League champions offload numerous youngsters for cheap in specialised deals that could work to Real’s advantage.

As with Kubo, Gutierrez will sign for Girona for good in a deal that will see Madrid earn 50% of any transfer fee the Blanquivermells earn for the defender in the future, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side also inserting a similar clause in Luka Jovic’s deal to ACF Fiorentina, dealings which could earn Real millions in the future.

Indeed, these deals could be strokes of genius from Madrid, but for Leeds and West Ham, missing out on Gutierrez is a big blow for the Premier League duo, especially given how cheap Girona are signing the defender for this summer.

Leeds and West Ham have both been quite active in the market this summer, yet neither side are yet to land on a left-back, and Gutierrez could have been ideal for what both English sides need, and Girona’s deal to sign the youngster could prove to be a mistake from the Premier League duo.

After all, Gutierrez has the potential to become a top talent in La Liga, and even if Leeds and West Ham accepted Madrid’s terms on a deal, the 21-year-old would have been an exciting addition to England and a player who could quickly have become a starter for the Whites of the Irons.
