According to The Athletic, Leeds are set to miss out on Mohamed Camara, as Premier League rivals Brighton close in.

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old is said to be a target for Jesse Marsch, although the American is unlikely to get his man.

The Athletic believe Camara is now heading for Brighton, after the Seagulls pulled ahead of the Whites in this particular transfer battle.

It comes shortly after the £25m Mali international suddenly left pre-season training with RB Salzburg, which fuelled talk of a move to the Premier League.

However, despite Marsch’s close contacts with the Red Bull network, he seems to have lost out to Graham Potter.

It means, unless there is a late shock, Leeds will now have to look elsewhere for a Kalvin Phillips replacement, who is capable of providing some steel in midfield alongside Marc Roca.

In 36 appearances last season, Camara scored one goal while also providing five assists – as seen in the photo at the top of the page, he also impressively won the Man of the Match award in a clash with Bayern Munich.

Leeds have alternatives to Mohamed Camara

If Brighton do manage to secure Camara’s signature, Marsch at least has alternatives.

Tyler Adams – who plays for another side in Red Bull’s network, RB Leipzig – is also a target for Leeds, as well as being a player Marsch knows well from his time managing the German side.

Leeds have also been credited with an interest in Swansea maestro Flynn Downes, so it is quite evident that the Whites are in the market for another central midfield option.

However, they face competition from Crystal Palace for the Championship star.

Ultimately, the money raised from the imminent sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha should help Leeds find an outstanding option in that department, but only time will tell how the funds are spent.
