According to Calciomercato in Italy, Inter Milan have offered Edin Dzeko a new contract after Everton and Wolves showed interest.
Inter Milan aim to fend off Everton & Wolves
Well, it was Gazzetta dello Sport who revealed that Frank Lampard and – at the time – Bruno Lage wanted to sign the Bosnia international, who made a name for himself in the Premier League with Manchester City.
Dzeko scored 50 goals in 130 Premier League appearances for the Citizens, winning two Premier League titles at the Etihad Stadium.
Now, Inter Milan are keen to keep their No.9 at the San Siro.
Calciomercato believe the Italian giants have already opened discussions over a one-year extension for Dzeko, with his current terms set to expire at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in 18 appearances so far this term, stepping up to cover for the injured Romelu Lukaku in some style alongside Lautaro Martinez.
Everton & Wolves should look elsewhere
In our view, Everton and Wolves can do better than Dzeko, as talented as he is.
The £153,000-a-week man turns 37 in March, and if he does end up signing a new one-year deal in Milan, it could well turn out to be the final contract of his career, barring a late move to the United States, for example.
Wolves have already seen the effects of a decline in Diego Costa, who has struggled tremendously since arriving at Molineux on a deal until the end of the season.
Both Everton and Wolves need someone fresher to lead the line.
After all, if one of the Premier League duo do end up signing Dzeko, they will surely need to look for a replacement soon anyway given his age. He is far from a long-term striking option, to say the least.
