According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United’s summer transfer budget stands between £80m and £100m.

Newcastle United are the richest club in the world after the Saudi takeover in late 2021, but it seems as though they won’t be going wild with their spending this summer.

Indeed, a top-end of £100m is rather conservative for a club who have been linked with almost every footballer under the sun.

In comparison, Liverpool are about to spend £85m on one player, Darwin Nunez, while both Fulham and Leeds have both spent close to £100m in a single summer in recent years.

Of course, this is a massive step up from last summer when the Magpies spent just £25m on one signing – Joe Willock, but many will have been hoping to see hundreds of millions spent on top talents.

If recent reports are to be believed, a large chunk of this budget will be spent on Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, and if the reports of a £32m move for Sven Botman are also accurate, there isn’t much room left to manoeuvre for the Magpies this summer.

Of course, this budget could be bolstered by player sales, or the Telegraph’s information could just be incorrect, but if United are to spend just £100m this summer, there may not be many blockbuster signings on the horizon.

Luckily, there are plenty of free agents out there that Newcastle could get their hands on, so a smaller transfer outlay may not necessarily mean inactivity.

Newcastle will certainly be one of the most interesting teams to follow in the coming months.
