Newcastle United want Sven Botman and will have hope of a deal this week after Dan Ashworth watched him in action on Saturday.

Newcastle have secured Matt Target permanently and will now look to land their long-term targets.

Reims striker Hugo Ekitike is one of those targets but so is another France-based player in Lille defender Botman.

Botman was desperate to join Newcastle in January according to Amanda Staveley and a summer deal is unsurprisingly being targeted.

Newcastle United want Sven Botman

Newcastle went and signed a left-footed centre back in January as Dan Burn arrived from Brighton.

It’s not often you see two left-footed centre backs together but Newcastle could make it happen with a move for Botman.

The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle hope to conclude talks over a £32million deal for Botman this week.

AC Milan were favourites for Botman but Newcastle are coming on a strong and were increasingly confident of a deal last week.

The Chronicle now claim that Newcastle’s sporting director Dan Ashworth watched the Netherlands Under-21’s against Wales over the weekend.

Botman started for the Netherlands and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.

Ashworth’s son Zac – who is in the West Bromwich Albion ranks – was on the bench for Wales but didn’t come on, so his focus may have ended up being on Botman.

The 22-year-old is a giant at 6ft 5in tall and could form an enormous partnership with Burn at Newcastle.

Formerly of Ajax, Botman has taken French football by storm since replacing now-Arsenal ace Gabriel Magalhaes in 2020.

Milan remain a threat in this race but with Newcastle pressing ahead and Ashworth watching him over the weekend, Botman appears to be the key focus for the Magpies.
