The Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (January 31st 2017; 12:52pm) has reported that Celtic are set to receive a significant boost at the end of the transfer window with the news that Craig Gordon is set to sign a new deal at Parkhead.

Gordon had emerged as something of a surprise target for Premier League leaders Chelsea as they prepared to potentially replace Asmir Begovic who had been earmarked as a £10 million target for Bournemouth (via Mirror).

However, the Mirror’s transfer feed has reported that the potential chain of events now appears to be off the cards as Gordon now looks set to commit his future to the Hoops, forcing the Blues to keep Begovic at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Mirror, the 34-year-old is about to agree a new three and a half year deal with the Bhoys so looks set to spend perhaps the rest of his playing career with the Scottish Premiership leaders.

The news will undoubtedly provide Brendan Rodgers with a lift as the hours ticking down would have made it extremely difficult for Celtic to sign a replacement of Gordon’s quality.

And with Dorus De Vries struggling when given a chance earlier in the campaign, it is arguably fair to say that they do not have a ready-made replacement already in the squad, even if their current lead in the title race means that they should win the league at a canter.
