CalcioMercato claim that Roma are ‘furious’ with Nicolo Zaniolo and his behaviour and a result, have decided not to renew his contract – amid reports of an approach from Tottenham and even reports of a possible player-plus-cash deal.
Zaniolo, 22, has been a revelation for Roma since joining the club from Inter Milan in 2018. He has played 111 times since swapping Inter for Roma at just 18, having a hand in 37 goals. He has just enjoyed his best season.
After injury issues in 2020-21, he had a hand in 17 goals in 42 goals during 2021-22. He has become a regular with Italy, and scored the winning goal in the Europa Conference League final – but his contract expires in 2024.

Reports earlier this month say Fabio Paratici met with Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto in Milan – and asked for ‘information’ on Zaniolo. Other reports from Italy even claim that Spurs will include Lucas Moura in a possible deal.
Now, CM report that Roma are angry with Zaniolo and are open to his exit. However, they will not reduce their asking price for the versatile attacker – requesting a near club-record fee of £52million, if Spurs were to buy him.
Roma furious with Zaniolo amid Tottenham reports
What a signing Zaniolo would be for Spurs. He fits all of the criteria Tottenham and Paratici are looking for. An experienced player between 20 and 25, he has more than 100 games under his belt – and nine Italy caps.
But in terms of positions Spurs want to fill, he also fits the bill. Lucas and Steven Bergwijn could go. They need a winger, but also back-up for Harry Kane. Zaniolo can do both. He is everything Spurs want in attack.
