According to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Serge Gnabry, who spent time in the Premier League with Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, this is bad news for Tottenham.

Catalunya Radio believe Xavi is monitoring Gnabry’s situation at Bayern Munich closely, as he aims to take advantage of it.

The Germany international is currently refusing to sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena, with his current terms set to expire in June 2023.

Therefore, if Bayern Munich cannot find an agreement with their No.7 over a new deal, then he could leave for nothing in 2023 – if he isn’t sold this summer.

Antonio Conte is believed to be pushing Tottenham to sign Gnabry, who has become one of the best forwards in Europe since moving to Germany.

So far this season, the 26-year-old has scored 17 goals in 45 appearances, while also providing ten assists under Julian Nagelsmann.

In total, he has netted 64 goals in 171 games for Bayern Munich.

Interestingly, Liverpool are also said to be keen on signing Gnabry, who Arsenal sold for just £5m in 2016.

Barcelona or Tottenham could embarrass Arsenal

The fact Gnabry is now starring for a European giant in Bayern Munich is already quite embarrassing from Arsenal’s point of view.

Clearly, there was an error of judgement from the Gunners while the Stuttgart-born forward was at the Emirates Stadium.

However, it would become even more humiliating for Arsenal if Gnabry joined Tottenham – their bitter rivals – and performed heroics for them as well.

Barcelona could prevent that from happening.

However, even in that scenario, it would reflect badly on Arsenal if Gnabry went and scored goals for yet another European giant.

Whatever happens, keep an eye on the German’s contract situation, as he could end up being one of the most high-profile signings of the summer.
