Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is now urging the club to make a move for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry this summer.

That’s according to a report from the Daily Star, who claim that Conte is ‘pushing’ club officials to make a cut-price bid for the German.

Gnabry is out of contract in 2023 and there are currently no signs of him signing a new deal with Bayern.

That means the Bundesliga champions may be tempted to sell Gnabry for a reduced fee before seeing him leave for nothing next year.

Conte now wants to see Gnabry arrive at Tottenham – but the wages could be a huge issue.

Gnabry is allegedly seeking a deal in the region £13million-a-year at Bayern, which is around £250,000-a-week.

It’s incredibly hard to see Tottenham paying that kind of salary to a new signing this summer, as it would see them become the highest-paid player at the club.

Conte may well want Gnabry but it’s just hard to see that kind of move come off.

Gnabry may also be a little hesitant about joining Tottenham given his ties with Arsenal.

Arsenal may have sold Gnabry for just £5million but the winger showed his affinity by tweeting ‘North London is red’ in 2019 having scored four times against Tottenham.

Gnabry failed to really establish himself at Arsenal but has become an absolute star with Bayern.

The 26-year-old has racked up 63 goals and 40 assists in 168 games for Bayern whilst also hitting 20 goals in 31 Germany caps.

Gnabry would undoubtedly be a coup for Tottenham, but given the wages needed, his history with Arsenal and the fact that Tottenham have an established front three in Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski, it’s hard to see a deal happening.
