Arsenal’s hopes of signing striker Alexander Isak have suffered a major dent after he signed a new contract at Real Sociedad.
The Gunners have question marks over the futures of both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, with their contracts ending in 2022.
If one of them leaves this summer, Arsenal will be seeking a replacement, and Isak has emerged as a target.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Isak
The Athletic first reported Arsenal’s interest in signing Isak, before Cadena Ser suggested that the Gunners had held talks.
AS reported last week that Arsenal had indicated to Isak’s representatives that they would do everything they could to sign him if he was interested in a move to North London.
Isak, 21, smashed 17 goals in 34 La Liga games last season, and has excelled for Sweden at Euro 2020 this summer.

Isak price tag jumps up
Arsenal’s hopes have taken a huge dent today, because Isak has signed a new contract to stay at Sociedad until 2026.
El Desmarque add that his release clause is now increasing from €70million (£60million) to €90million (£77.5million), meaning the Gunners would have to pay almost £18million more than they would have yesterday.
The £60million fee was enough of a deterrent for Arsenal, but now the price has gone up to almost £80million, it’s relatively safe to suggest that the Swede won’t be joining Arsenal this summer.
