Arsenal are being linked with a lot of midfielders this summer, but let’s not forget that the North Londoners badly need firepower up front.
Between them, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette scored only 32 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last season.
And with both forwards the wrong side of 30, Arsenal should be on the lookout for young models – and they reportedly are.
The Athletic has reported that the Emirates Stadium club are keen on Real Sociedad marksman Alexander Isak, with Edu said to be a huge fan of the player.
And Cadena Ser have claimed that Arsenal have already opened talks with the player’s agents about a switch to the Premier League.
Plausible?
Well, that depends.
Isak has a release clause of £60 million with the Spanish club and that would make the 21-year-old Arsenal’s most expensive striker of all time.
And with Mikel Arteta’s side not having European football of any description next season after their worst campaign in 25 years last time around [they finished eighth, it’s difficult to see them dropping that sort of money.
And let’s be honest, it’s also hard to see Isak wanting to join the Gunners.
There’s no denying Arsenal are a huge club, but at the moment they continue to be a team in transition and Isak could – and probably will – have the pick of much better sides over the coming months.
