Newcastle are now interested in signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan in 2023, a player who Tottenham are also keen to land.

Newcastle join Tottenham in Martinez race

Well, that is according to Inter Live, who believe Eddie Howe plans to rival Antonio Conte for the Argentina international next year, as he aims to improve his attack.

It comes after a separate story from Inter Live claimed that Tottenham are planning to move for Martinez in an attempt to keep their manager happy in north London, as he is yet to sign a new contract.

Conte’s current terms expire in July, and Spurs believe a reunion with the South American – who helped him win the Serie A title for Inter Milan in 2021 – would go some way to keeping him in N17.

Inter Live add that the Italian giants are demanding €90m (£78m) to sell their No.10 in 2023.

Interestingly, the story claims that Tottenham actually offered that amount to Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, although both Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi had already been sold, so there were fears of causing fan unrest if another star was offloaded.

So far this season, Martinez has continued to shine at the San Siro, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 16 appearances.

Newcastle & Tottenham face Chelsea battle

Inter Milan’s £78m asking price isn’t the only thing Newcastle and Tottenham have to worry about.

Inter Live mention that Chelsea could make a swoop for Martinez, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turning 34 in June.

Interestingly, it is said that an offer of €40m (£34m) and Romelu Lukaku could be made by the Blues, which would tempt Inter Milan – the Belgian is currently on loan at the San Siro, but returns to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Clearly, there is a lot of interest in Martinez from Europe’s elite – Inter Live also claim that Barcelona and Manchester United are keen – so be sure to keep an eye on this saga going into 2023.
