AC Milan have reportedly made contact with superagent Jorge Mendes over the signing of Renato Sanches, Arsenal also interested in the Portuguese international.

According to CalcioMercato, the Serie A champions have made a fresh proposal to Mendes over his in-demand client, with Sanches heavily linked with a move away from LOSC Lille this summer as the likes of Milan, Arsenal and PSG have all been rumoured with a move for the midfielder.

As per the report, Sanches was close to signing for PSG and reuniting with former manager Christophe Galtier, however, talks between Lille and the Ligue 1 giants have broken down, and whilst a move is still possible later in the window, Milan have used the opportunity to launch another attempt to sign the former Bayern Munich star.

With a reported price tag of £25m, Sanches could be one of the bargains of the summer given how versatile and adaptive the midfielder is, with the 25-year-old playing a huge role in Lille’s Ligue 1 title win in 2021, yet the Benfica academy graduate is eager for a new challenge away from Les Dogues.

As a result, Sanches, who has been labelled as ‘world-class’ by former Liverpool star Luis Enrique, has been linked with numerous clubs this summer, though Arsenal have been regularly reported as a side interested in the Ligue 1 star, with Mikel Arteta eager to sign another midfielder before the closure of the window later this month.

Indeed, whilst Youri Tielemans reportedly remains Arsenal’s main midfield target if Arteta is to make such a move this summer, Sanches could be an ideal alternative if Lille begin to scramble for a sale in the coming weeks, especially if Milan’s plan to sign the Portuguese star once again falls through.

Sanches’ transfer saga has been one of the most drawn out this summer, one minute he’s joining Milan and the next he’s agreed to sign for PSG, and for Arsenal, they should be playing up to this confusion to their advantage to swoop in and bring the midfielder to north London.

After all, Sanches suits what Arsenal need in a midfielder to a tee, and with Milan and PSG scrambling over basic details of the deal with Lille, the Gunners could be productive and use this added time to make a move for the Portuguese superstar, who could become a smash hit at the Emirates Stadium.
