AC Milan are offering Arsenal hope in the Premier League side’s reported pursuit of LOSC Lille ace Renato Sanches, as the midfielder’s wage demands are blocking a likely transfer.
That’s according to 90min, who report personal terms for the Portugal star are proving a major stumbling block. The Rossoneri are eager to wrap up Sanches’ arrival at the San Siro before the window formally opens. But talks with his agent, Jorge Mendes, hit dead ends.
The Serie A side remain confident that Sanches will ultimately join Stefano Pioli’s squad at the end of the season. Chiefs at the Italian top-flight leaders also believe they can agree a deal with Les Dogues for the 24-year-old at £15m, with Sanches’ contract expiring in 2023.
But AC Milan risk missing out on a transfer to perhaps Arsenal if they cannot offer Sanches better personal terms to leave Lille. Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Gunners view the 32-cap dynamo as their top target to improve boss Mikel Arteta’s midfield options.
Arsenal technical director Edu is also a big admirer of Sanches, having sought to offer Lille €55m (£46m) in January, per Calciomercato. But the Brazilian could not raise enough funds for the swoop during the winter market. So, he may revive his chase of the five-assist star.
