There’s been some new Arsenal transfer news coming out of France.

Nicolas Pepe has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 outfit Nice in recent days.

The 27-year-old appears to have virtually no future at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and barely started a Premier League outing during the 2021-22 campaign.

And according to Nice Matin, the former Lille attacker is open to the idea of leaving the Gunners and wouldn’t reject a return to France.

Pepe established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players in Ligue 1 following a spell with Lille.

Since coming to the Premier League, though, it’s been nothing but disappointment for the most part.

Sixteen goals and nine assists from 80 Premier League appearances isn’t a rotten return, but it is underwhelming to say the least when a club-record figure of £72 million was spent on you.

In terms of value for money, Pepe will be remembered as perhaps Arsenal’s worst investment because not only did he cost a bomb, but he’s earning £140,000 per week at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta and Edu will be hoping that if Pepe’s return to France is a loan initially, that the French outfit will cover the entirety of his wages to enable the North Londoners to bring somebody else in this summer.
