Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Rangers defender Leon Balogun has been waxing-lyrical about reported Liverpool target Yves Bissouma.
Balogun, who is a player Steven Gerrard seemingly loves at Rangers, was asked about his former Brighton teammate in relation to his links to Liverpool, and he’s had nothing but good things to say about the Mali international.
What’s been said?
Balogun was asked what he thinks of Bissouma amid his links to Liverpool, to which he replied:
“I was always very honest with these things, with the way Graham Potter plays it’s better for him, but if you look at his potential he can go places you know. He’s a blessing for Brighton, but if you love football and you love watching gifted players, you should wish for him to make the next step. With the way he’s playing now, you don’t even see what he can do, he can do so much more. In training sometimes, he didn’t even tie his shoelaces and he had everyone on skates. He’s a joy to watch, I saw his Instagram story the other day in Ivory Coast where he’s doing all of these flicks, he does things with so much ease you know, the way he beats players, he’s incredible, a really, really gifted player.”

Wijnaldum replacement
Could Bissouma be the perfect replacement for Gini Wijnaldum?
Well, he certainly has the talent to play for a top side, but it would take something special to step into Wijnaldum’s place.
The Dutchman is a modern Liverpool legend, and replacing him is an unenviable task, but based on what we’ve seen from Bissouma at Brighton and Balogun’s testament you’d have to say that he’s got what it takes.
Whether or not Liverpool make a move for Bissouma remains to be seen, but there is certainly an interest there and based on what Balogun says, he’d be a fantastic signing.
