Rangers defender Borna Barisic thinks getting to represent his country at Euro 2020 is the “cherry on top” of a fantastic season for him personally as the Ibrox star looks to add to the Scottish Premiership title he won with Steven Gerrard’s side in 2020/21.
The Croatians face Spain in Copenhagen on Monday and the Rangers defender is in contention to start his first game of the tournament after he made his return from injury in the win over Scotland at Hampden earlier in the week.
Barisic admits his performances for Rangers over the season brings “self-confidence” after impressing for the Gers domestically and in Europe, insisting his focus was always on the Light Blues despite having Euro 2020 to look forward to.
“When you have a season like the season I had, not just on a personal level but all of the club, then of course that brings a lot of self-confidence, Barisic said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We had big matches at Rangers with the championship and also the Europa League.
“So all of that big number brings a lot of confidence, especially in big matches for the national team.
“I didn’t think about it during the season because I was focused on Rangers during that time and winning the championship.
“But, at the moment when we won, I started focusing more and more on the Euros. This is really the cherry on top for me personally after this season with Rangers.”
Croatian has been key for Rangers on the way to 55
Barisic’s performances for Rangers over the last two seasons have been a massive part of the huge improvements in the Gers’ results on the pitch.
The Croatian international was one of Rangers’ most consistent players on the way to 55 with his constant threat down the left.
After returning to fitness, hopefully he can show exactly what he’s capable of at Euro 2020.
