The opening Old Firm game of the 2021/22 season will kick off at 12 noon on August 29 as Rangers host Celtic early in the defence of their Scottish Premiership title.

Sky Sports have confirmed the kick off time as they announced their first batch of televised games for the new season, with Rangers and Celtic dominating the TV picks.

Originally scheduled for the Saturday afternoon, the game has been pushed back to the Sunday for the lunchtime kick off and is the last league fixture before September’s international fixtures get underway.

Rangers won three of the four Premiership meetings between the two sides on the way to their first league title in a decade and their biggest ever points margin over their biggest rivals.

Before the Old Firm meet, both sides have three Premiership fixtures to play; Rangers taking on Livingston, Dundee United and Ross County while Celtic face Hearts, Dundee and St. Mirren.

Rangers clash will be new Celtic boss’ first Old Firm

The August clash at Ibrox will be new Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou’s first taste of the Old Firm and the Australian will be hoping his side don’t lose ground on the champions early in the season.

With it still unclear on how many fans will be allowed into the ground for the first Old Firm game of the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there were attempts made to move it should the return tto a majority of the capacity happen.
