Rangers were keen on signing Koln midfielder Salih Ozcan last summer – now he’s potentially on his way to Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The Gers are regularly linked with players and, more often than not, they don’t actually amount to very much.
Ozcan certainly fits that bill having been linked with a big move to Rangers last summer.
Koln-based newspaper Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger reported last summer that Rangers were keen to lure Ozcan to Ibrox.
It was suggested that Ozcan wasn’t all that interested in a move to Ibrox but talks over a new contract weren’t going well.
Rangers were seemingly sensing a bargain as Ozcan could have been signed for absolutely nothing last summer.
Koln did end up managing to convince Ozcan to stay, handing him a new contract until the summer of 2023.
The 24-year-old has been justified for that decision having turned in a superb season for Koln.
Ozcan has been a regular with 29 Bundesliga appearances, helping to put Koln in contention for a European spot.
Ozcan has been so good that he could now earn an enormous summer transfer away from Koln.
German newspaper Express report that Borussia Dortmund now want to sign Ozcan, viewing him as a potential replacement for Axel Witsel.
Koln need to make a big sale this summer and Ozcan to Dortmund may just bring in the cash they’re seeking.

That would be a major step for Ozcan, and it’s noted that a move would appeal as Dortmund is only just over an hour away from Koln.
Seeing Ozcan join Dortmund may leave Rangers feeling they really missed out on a top talent – and it could even get worse.
That same Express report claims that Koln are eyeing up RB Leipzig talent Eric Martel as a potential signing in place of Ozcan.
Just last week, reports indicated that Rangers are keen to sign Martel this summer.
Ozcan to Dortmund and Martel to Koln would be a double whammy for Rangers and something they surely won’t want to see happen.
