Rangers and Celtic will field a B team in the Lowland League for the first time this season and the young Gers have found out who they will face on the opening day of the season after the fixture list was released this morning.
After their admission to the league was confirmed earlier this year, Rangers B will kick off their campaign against Bo’ness United at Dumbarton while rivals Celtic will get underway with a tie away to Bonnyrigg Rose, with both games taking place on July 17.
The first B Old Firm derby between the sides in the league will take place on July 31st at Airdrie’s Penny Cars Stadium – with the return scheduled for New Year’s Day.
Despite failing to win the backing of enough SPFL clubs to be admitted to League Two, the Old Firm were given a one-year pilot in the Lowland League to showcase their Colts proposals.
That will see both sides ineligible for promotion or relegation as they come up against the likes of East Stirlingshire, Spartans, Gretna 2008 and Berwick Rangers.
Rangers and Celtic youngsters given huge platform in Lowland League

Both Rangers and Celtic’s side are likely to be made up of, primarily, the under-18s groups who took part in 2020/21s CAS league – won by the Gers.
With 32 games against teams comprising of experienced players, it will be an excellent chance for some of the Old Firm’s elite young players to take their development to the next level and play in games that have real consequences.
