Celtic legend Scott Brown has started pre-season with his new Aberdeen teammates today at the Dons’ Cormack Park training ground – and fans on Twitter have been reacting after the former Hoops’ skipper was confirmed as the Pittodrie side’s number 8 for the new season.

Brown decided to walk away from the chance of remaining at Celtic as part of Ange Postecoglou‘s rebuild when he penned a pre-contract with the Dons earlier this year, taking up a player/coach role under new Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass.

Brown inherits the number 8 shirt worn by Funso Ojo last season before the Belgian-born midfielder was shipped out on loan.

It will be interesting to see how big a role Brown plays for the Dons on the pitch as he looks to combine his playing duties with coaching in his first season away from Celtic since 2007.

While at Celtic Park, Brown won ten Scottish Premiership titles, five Scottish Cups, and six Scottish League Cups, captaining the Bhoys to nine titles in a row and the quadruple treble between 2016/17 and 2019/20.

The Dons had a disappointing season in 2020/21 and will be looking to reclaim their crown as the best of the rest having slipped to fourth in the Premiership behind Hibs, Celtic and Rangers.

Glass’ side have a trip to Sweden on the horizon in qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League, taking on BK Hacken next month before the Scottish Premiership gets underway with a New Firm derby against Dundee United on August 1.

While it might take a while to get used to the sight of Brown in red rather than green and white hoops, Dons fans were excited to see the Celtic legend get started as an Aberdeen player.

Here are some of the comments on Twitter after the Celtic legend’s squad number at Aberdeen was confirmed:
