Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers are struggling to keep up with Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he feels sorry for Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Warburton has come under criticism and under pressure due to Rangers’ disappointing performances and results in recent weeks.

The Gers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 43 points from 24 matches, as many as 27 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Celtic boss Rodgers has suggested that he feels sorry for Warburton and has also given the Englishman some sound advice.

“I have empathy for every manager,” Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times. “It’s tough. There are good rewards to being a manager. It’s a great life, you’re out in the fresh open air every day, you are coaching players and making people better.

“But there’s another side to it that is tough. So I have empathy with every single manager, Mark, others, when it is tough.

“But we know we all have to get through it. You’re never going to have it perfect. You just try and stay as calm as you can and know that you work well, trust in what you do and look to win games.”

Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and as Warburton is finding out, it is not easy to be the Gers manager.

The Englishman has done a good job at Ibrox, though, and if the team are able to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, then it should be considered a success.

Rangers will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Greenock Morton at Ibrox in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

The Glasgow giants will then face Dundee away from home at Dens Park in the Scottish Premiership.
