Rangers and Celtic have been linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo this month, but the Glasgow sides are to miss out on luring him to Ibrox or Parkhead – and it is the right decision not to pursue a move as Bournemouth close in.
Semenyo, 23, has returned from the World Cup in superb form. He has had a hand in five goals in his last five games, scoring four times – three in the Championship and one in the FA Cup against Swansea. Semenyo is really impressing.
The London-born Ghana international has clocked up 124 outings for Bristol City since joining the club in the summer of 2018 – producing 42 goals and assists. The Robins extended his contract by a year, to June 2024, in December.
It meant that interested parties would have to pay nearly full whack this month if they were to sign him. Sports World Ghana said that Rangers were looking at making a bid. Meanwhile, Football Scotland claim Celtic have held talks.

Rangers and Celtic make right decision not to pursue £9m Semenyo
Sky Sports Transfer Centre claim (26/01, 2:01PM) that Semenyo is set to join Premier League side Bournemouth for a fee of £9m plus add-ons. Now, Semenyo is a talent. A player with pace, goals, assists, versatility and is still only 23.
But, is he worth £9m – or more, with add-ons? Hardly. He is a good player with potential. But just seven goals in both League and Cup this season is hardly jumping off the page. Semenyo is a good player, if available for half that price.
So, given Celtic and Rangers were interested in him – but are now due to miss out, have they made the right decision? Yes. He is a good player but simply not worth £9m. Celtic and Rangers can get a player as good, for a cheaper price.
