Rangers Celtic are waiting to discover who the Gers’ B team will face on the opening day of a historic Scottish Lowland League season as the Glasgow giants field a ‘Colt’ team in the league for the first time.
The young Gers and their Old Firm rivals will be pitched in against first-teams from the likes of Berwick Rangers, East Stirlingshire, Bo’ness United and East Kilbride when the fixtures are released tomorrow morning at 9am.
After Kevin Thomson left the Gers to take the reins at League Two side Kelty Hearts, Rangers are yet to announce who will take charge of the side – likely to be primarily consisting of the side who just lifted the CAS under-18 league title.
Huge season for Rangers youngsters

Although neither of the Colt sides will be eligible for promotion to the SPFL, as things stand, the chance to play competitive football against experienced pros will be a massive boost for the Old Firm youngsters‘ development.
Rangers have long championed the addition of Colt sides to the league pyramid and will be looking forward to testing their best youngsters in the Lowland League.
While it won’t attract the same sort of attention as Steven Gerrard’s first-team as they defend the Gers’ first title in a decade, the coming season will be a truly historic one for Rangers and Celtic.
Come 9am tomorrow, it will be another step closer to Rangers’ ambitions of fielding a second XI in the SPFL as the Old Firm’s youngsters prepare to find out just who they’ll be facing on opening day of the Lowland League season.
