Billy Gilmour is out of Scotland’s crunch Euro 2020 clash with Croatia at Hampden tomorrow night after he tested positive for Covid-19 – leaving the Tartan Army on Twitter distraught.

Gilmour was expected to start against the Croatians after his stunning performance at Wembley in the draw with England, but now has to self-isolate for 10 days.

Despite only making his first start for Scotland on Friday, Gilmour was the best player on the pitch as he outshone Gareth Southgate’s stars and controlled the game from the middle of the park.

Scotland need a win against the beaten 2018 World Cup finalists if they are to make history and progress beyond the group stage of a major tournament for the first time.

Gilmour will have had a massive role to play tomorrow night at Hampden, but Steve Clarke will now need to look to others in his squad to step up.

Southampton’s Stuart Armstrong or former Rangers midfielder John Fleck could replace the 20-year-old in the starting XI tomorrow night, or Clarke could move Scott McTominay forward from defence.

However, fans weren’t thinking that far ahead as news of Gilmour’s positive test was announced.

Here are some of the comments from distraught Scotland fans after Billy Gilmour’s absence was confirmed:
