Rangers defender Niko Katic admits that it is a “bit strange” there are only two players from Ibrox in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad at Euro 2020.

Jon McLaughlin and Nathan Patterson are the only Ibrox representatives in the Scotland squad – while Billy Gilmour and John Fleck are both ex-Rangers players.

Katic believes that Ryan Jack would have made the squad but for an injury, pointing to the number of non-Scots in the Rangers dressing-room as part of the reason for the lack of representation in the Scotland squad at Euro 2020.

‘It’s a bit strange, but it’s also understandable because there are a lot of foreigners. And the English,” Katic told tportal.

“As far as the Scots on our team are concerned, Ryan Jack should have been called up, but he had spinal surgery. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor said goodbye to the national team.”

The Croatian defender has been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury at the start of last season and is preparing to return to training with the rest of Steven Gerrard’s squad.

After missing a year of football on the back of the enforced shutdownn because of Covid, Katic has been a long time without a competitive game of football.

With Connor Goldson, Fil Helander and Leon Balogun smashing defensive records as Rangers romped to the title, Katic faces a big fight to get back into the side.
