Rangers legend Kenny Miller has expressed his concerns over summer arrivals Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz, telling Clyde Super Scoreboard that none of the trio are ‘anywhere near the team at the moment’.

This is not the first time Rangers’ recruitment team have come under question.

During the summer of 2021, the Glasgow giants brought in Juninho Bacuna, Matuesz Zukowski, John Lundstram, Nnamdi Ofabor and Fashion Sakala in an attempt to strengthen Steven Gerrard’s title-winning squad.

One year on, only Lundstram is a regular fixture in the starting XI. Bacuna and Zukowski have gone, while Sakala’s only start so far this season came against Queen of the South in the Scottish League Cup.

And Miller is wondering whether history is repeating itself at Ibrox; Rangers’ off-season activity once again creating more questions than answers.

Will Davies, Matondo and Yilmaz succeed at Rangers?

“The recruitment side is getting a lot of scrutiny at the moment,” says Miller, who played on both sides of the Old Firm divide. “There are reported figures of £12million (worth of players) that are not even anywhere near the team at the moment.

“When you’re spending that type of money, they have to be hits. They have to make an impact on that first team. At the moment, there’s question marks over Davies. Is he going to be the long-term partner for (Connor) Goldson, and has he got the quality?

“Matondo, we’ve seen in flashes. But, at the moment, he’s not going to be a starter. Yilmaz, we’ve barely seen any of him. There’s not been much evidence of if it’s going to be money well spent.”

In Rangers’ defence, former Liverpool misfit Davies should slot straight into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team when he returns from injury. The £4 million centre-back will replace the struggling James Sands.

Matondo is yet to issue a compelling response to those questioning his end product, however. Yilmaz, meanwhile, endured a torrid afternoon during his only Premiership appearance so far, failing to oust the increasingly-divisive Borna Barisic at left-back.
