Vincent Kompany’s Burnley have been priced out of a move for Fashion Sakala with Rangers valuing the Ibrox speedster at a fee in excess of £4 million, as reported by The Athletic.
A couple of days ago, the spring-heeled Zambia international admitted that he planned to hold talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst; Answered required after his future in Glasgow was thrown into question.
With The Athletic reporting that Sakala is still as a key part of Rangers’ plans, however, this should calm the 25-year-old’s fears. For the time being, anyway.
Burnley target Fashion Sakala is staying at Rangers
It is no secret that Burnley wanted a speedy wide forward at Turf Moor before September’s deadline. Kompany admitted Clarets’ interest in both Jovane Cabral (Sporting Lisbon) and Isaak Davies (Cardiff City) this week already. Deals for both players, at this stage, feel distinctly unlikely.
And Burnley appear to have missed out on Sakala too. The Championship promotion-chasers were willing to pay up to £4 million. Such an offer would fall short of Rangers’ demands, however. And the deal looks deader than Nick Swardson’s Hollywood career as of Friday afternoon, with Burnley opting for a low-cast solution instead.
The exciting Nathan Tella has arrived on a season-long loan deal from Premier League Southampton.
“I haven’t had a meeting with (Van Bronckhorst),” Sakala told The Herald earlier this month.
“I am expecting a meeting any time soon and I hope to hear his views. This is something I am looking forward to because I want to know where I stand. Because I don’t know at the moment.”
Since then, the former KV Oostende attacker has not played a single minute of first-team football. He’s been left on the bench for three of Rangers’ first four games in 2022/23, and wasn’t even included in Van Bronckhorst’s matchday squad for the other – a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
