Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, Pete Graves has been chatting about Diego Carlos and his recent links to Newcastle United.
The Brazilian has been linked to Newcastle for the past few weeks, and while negotiations have dragged on, it seems as though the Magpies are finally close to making a breakthrough with the centre-half.
Indeed, Graves says that the player wants to come to St James’ Park, stating that all of the noises the transfer team at Sky are hearing are positive.
What’s been said about Carlos?
The journalist shared what he knows about Carlos, claiming that he’s the closest player to signing for the Magpies.
“Diego Carlos is the one that’s closest we think. All the noises that our transfer team including yourself, Kaveh, Keith Downie and myself all the noises are very positive. We understand that the player is keen to come. Newcastle are pushing really hard and I’m just wondering if that’s the one that will be agreed this week,” Graves said.

Important signing
This could be a vital signing for Newcastle.
Not only will Carlos improve the Magpies’ back four, but he will also give Eddie Howe scope to play in an even more expansive fashion.
Indeed, as we saw at Bournemouth, and as we’ve seen on occasion at Newcastle, Howe likes to play a high defensive line, and signing a defender who has been described as ‘very fast’ in the past will certainly suit that style.
The fact that Carlos has experience in the Champions League is another massive positive, and if the Magpies can fix their defensive issues, they’ll have a great chance of staying up. Who knows? Perhaps this signing can even help propel the Tyneside club to the next level.
