It now sounds like Newcastle aren’t all that confident of signing Lille defender Botman.
Sky Sports claim Freiburg star Nico Schlotterbeck is being eyed up as a potential signing instead of Botman.
The Telegraph now claim that Newcastle are eyeing up a move for Diego Carlos.
The Brazilian is thought to be ‘highly regarded’ at Newcastle and a January bid could now materialise.
Sevilla would allegedly expect beyond £30million for Diego Carlos, who fits the bill of being a top-tier centre back.
The 28-year-old, formerly of Nantes, has excelled in Spain since arriving in 2019.

Praised as ‘very fast’, ‘dynamic’ and ‘intense’, Diego Carlos now has more than 100 Sevilla appearances to his name.
Not exactly the biggest centre back ever at 6ft 1in tall and not left-footed like Botman and Schlotterbeck are, Diego Carlos doesn’t quite fit the same mould.
Yet having been linked with big moves over the last couple of years, this would be quite the coup if Newcastle can somehow pull it off.
Newcastle have already teed up a deal for Kieran Trippier, and seemingly. want Diego Carlos to follow him from Spain to Tyneside.
