Arsenal lost to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park and Mikel Arteta went on a rant. Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat to Chelsea and Ange Postecoglou remained dignified.

Following the win for Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this past weekend, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hammered match officials and VAR.

Arsenal even released a statement on their official website criticising the referees.

While Anthony Gordon’s goal for Newcastle was hugely controversial, I believe that Arsenal went over the top in slamming the match officials and VAR.

On Monday evening, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat to Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the London derby.

Spurs had defenders Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie sent off.

There were VAR issues and disallowed goals in the Premier League game between Spurs and Chelsea.

After the match, Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou did not moan about VAR and respected the referees’ decisions.

Michael Owen gives his verdict

Michael Owen was impressed with Postecoglou’s dignified response to VAR controversy.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has earlier hammered Arsenal and Arteta for how they reacted to refereeing decisions in the match against Newcastle.

Arsenal are fourth in the Premier League table now with 24 points from 11 matches.

The Gunners are three points behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.

Tottenham are currently second in the standings with 26 points from 11 matches, a point behind City.

Arsenal pushed City hard for the Premier League title last season and will be determined to win it this time.

Spurs’ main objective this season is to finish in the top four, but maybe, just maybe, they could launch a bid for the title.
