Jonathan Walters has said that Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero should not have been sent off against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in the London derby on Monday evening.

It was a very controversial game which had disallowed goals and red cards.

Tottenham ended the match with nine men.

Cristian Romero was sent off in the first half.

Destiny Udogie was dismissed in the second period and was probably lucky not to see a straight red card in the first half.

Romero’s dismissal came after a foul on Argentina international teammate and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez inside the Tottenham penalty area.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty and they scored from it.

Romero was dismissed for serious foul play.

While the decision to send off the £42 million (Sky Sports) Argentina international defender has been widely accepted as the right call, one pundit thinks that he was wronged.

Jonathan Walters does not think that Romero should have been sent off.

You can see the former Stoke City and Republic of Ireland international forward’s view on the incident below.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table with 26 points from 11 games.

Spurs are a point behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.

My View: Cristian Romero was deservedly sent off vs Chelsea

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was deservedly sent off against Chelsea in the London derby.

Yes, Romero did try to clear the ball away, but his follow-through saw Enzo Fernandez go down.

That was a bad challenge.

I believe that Romero should have been more careful with his challenge, especially as it was inside his own penalty area.

Romero could have actually been dismissed earlier in the first half.

The Argentina star appeared to kick out at Chelsea player Levi Colwill.
