Arsenal have made just the one senior signing so far this summer but Mikel Arteta will be looking to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

That one signing is a deal Arsenal fans have been expecting for a long, long time.

Arsenal confirmed the permanent signing of goalkeeper David Raya earlier in July having been impressed with his loan stay from Brentford.

The Gunners are chasing more signings though and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori is a key target for Arsenal this summer.

Goalkeeper Tommy Setford is also of interest to Arsenal with the 18-year-old potentially making a move to North London.

Arsenal will hope to get some deals done soon and one player from Euro 2024 is once again being tipped for a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Dutch pundit on Jerdy Schouten to Arsenal

Arsenal may be in the market for a midfielder this summer.

Real Sociedad ace Mikel Merino is one target for Arsenal but others will be in mind too.

Another holding player could free up Declan Rice to operate further forward and one player keeps being mentioned – but by pundits rather than transfer insiders.

Dutch pundit Hans Kraay Jr suggested last week that Arsenal should be in the market for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Jerdy Schouten.

Schouten featured for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 and Kraay Jr suggested that he is a ‘typical Pep Guardiola footballer’, highlighting his ability to keep possession.

That idea has now been mirrored by fellow Dutch pundit Marciano Vink, as quoted by FC Update.

Vink suggested that top clubs in England are looking for a player just like Schouten in terms of the way he keeps the ball and plays through the lines.

Vink specifically pinpointed Arsenal as a club who should be going for Schouten, believing that he would slot right into Mikel Arteta’s team.

“If you look at an Internazionale or a top-five club in England. They are looking for someone who does not lose the ball, but also someone who can easily find people between the lines,” said Vink.

“I don’t understand why Arsenal won’t pick him up tomorrow, so to speak. Those kinds of clubs are looking for that type of player in that position,” he added.

Schouten enjoyed a strong campaign with PSV, helping them regain the Eredivisie title under Peter Bosz.

The 27-year-old tried his hand in a top league with Bologna but moved on for a return to the Netherlands last summer.

Merino appears to be the focus for Arsenal but Dutch pundits seem convinced that Schouten should be a key target for Arsenal; only time will tell whether Arteta and Edu agree.
